How to Diet Successfully - The Facts!
How many times have you tried to
lose weight with a so-called "trendy diet"
only to end up with total frustration and disappointment?
Well you are not alone. These trendy diet plans often
set you up for failure. Here are some of the most common
reasons why diets fail...
[1] Diets deprive our Bodies
As with
most diets certain foods are eliminated from out eating
regime. In some cases certain diets eliminate entire
food
groups. This is very unhealthy and borderline
unrealistic for the long term.
[2] Most diet plans are only temporary
The
problem with most dieters is they temporarily stick
to a program and once they achieve the desired results
they usually go right back to their old eating habits.
[3] Dieting can be expensive
Not
only are many diet plans hard to stick to, but they
can become very expensive. Eating all the right foods
many times per day can rack up your grocery bill quick.
Then there are the diet plans that have you
ordering all kinds of varied supplements on top of
a detailed eating plan.
[4] Ironically dieting can actually slow
down your metabolism
By
eliminating food groups from your eating plan you
can actually slow your metabolism
down which in turn will cause you to gain
weight. Reason being is that by cutting out calories
you body has less to burn.
[5] Dieting in and of itself is only part
of the process to succeed.
Eating
right and taking supplements is one of the parts of
successfully achieving your weight goals. Lifetime
weight management is not just about eating it is also
about mixing in routine physical
activity.
Experts suggest 60-90 minutes of high intensity during
a given week on a minimum.
So fear not all is not lost. Successful
dieting is just a matter of understanding what steps
should be followed to insure you will get the results
you want and keep them. Being healthy requires determination
and dedication.
[1]
Dieting is not about cutting everything out of your
eating schedule and starving yourself it is about eating
enough of the right things to maintain your metabolic
and daily activity needs. There is a fine line
however between eating enough of the right things are
eating too much. A common measuring index for this
is a person should not eat so much that their body is
storing close to or over 30% of there overall body
mass. According to Health Check Systems, The
American Council on Exercise has categorized ranges
of body fat percentages as follows:
| Description |
Woman |
Men |
| Essential
Fat |
12-15% |
2-5% |
| Athletes |
16-20% |
6-13% |
| Fitness |
21-24% |
14-17% |
| Acceptable |
25-31% |
18-25% |
| Obese |
32%+ |
25%+ |
These are general guidelines, individual
circumstances can vary depending on other factors.
[2] You must
take time daily to do some sort of physical exercise.
According to experts, adults should exercise a
minimum of 30 minutes per day. Here are some tips for
successful exercise program:
- Build up gradually. Build up
your activity level gradually. For example, if you
are inactive now and want to begin
walking regularly, you might begin slowly with
a 10 to 15-minute walk, three times a week. As you
become more fit, you can increase the sessions to
every day and, if you wish, you can make each session
longer.
- If you choose a fairly vigorous activity,
begin each session slowly. Allow a 5-minute
period of stretching and slow movement to give your
body a chance to "warm up." At the end
of your workout, take another 5 minutes to "cool
down" with a slower exercise pace.
- Listen to your body. A certain
amount of stiffness is normal at first. But if you
hurt a joint or pull a muscle or tendon, stop the
activity for several days to avoid more serious
injury. Most minor muscle and joint problems can
be relieved by rest and over-the-counter painkillers.
- Pay attention to warning signals.
While regular physical activity can strengthen your
heart, some types of activity may worsen existing
heart problems. Warning signals include sudden dizziness,
cold sweat, paleness, fainting, or pain or pressure
in your upper body just after exercising. If you
notice any of these signs, stop the activity and
call your doctor immediately.
- Keep at it. Unless you have to
stop your regular physical activity for a health
reason, stay with it. Set small, short-term goals
for yourself. If you find yourself becoming bored,
try doing the activity with a friend or family member.
Or switch to another activity. The health rewards
of regular physical activity are well worth the
effort.
- Have Fun! Mix up your exercise
routine. Play basketball, swim, walk, jog, etc.
Anything that raises your heart rate for a sustained
period of time will work.
[3]
Supplements, not to be confused with
dieting
medications (i.e. Xenical,
Meridia, Phentermine,
etc) can help a person achieve their goals faster
also when used with a balanced dieting program. We define "supplements"
as vitamins
and minerals, as well as herbs,
botanicals
and other substances. As with all supplements they
are not intended to treat, diagnose, mitigate, prevent,
or cure disease. Do not self diagnose any health
condition. Work with your health care provider to determine
how best to achieve optimal health and always check
with your health care provider before taking a supplement,
especially when combining or substituting them
with other foods or medicine.
- Carb Blockers - Carb and fat blockers
utilize natural and safe ingredients to inhibit your
body's absorption of unwanted fat and carb calories.
Many people keep carb blockers and fat blockers on
hand and use them as needed to enjoy those "prohibited"
foods that would otherwise undermine their efforts
to lose weight, such as pizza and fast food. Carb
blockers use a specialized extract of white kidney
bean to slow the breakdown of starches and carbohydrates
by inhibiting the amylase enzyme. This drastically
slows the rate and amount of that would otherwise
enter the bloodstream.
- Appetite Suppressant
- Simply put an appetite
suppressant is anything that tricks you brain
into thinking it isn't hungry. One of the most popular
products on the market today is Hoodia
Gordinii which has been featured on many popular
primetime shows such as Dateline, Oprah and the Today
Show. Hoodia is all natural and sold here on InnerVital
in our dieting section.
